Every year the occasion of Ganga Dussehra is celebrated by performing several rites and rituals of Ganga pooja to commemorate her. Ganga Dussehra is dedicated to Goddess Ganga and it falls on Dashami Tithi or the tenth day of the bright half of the moon in the month of Jyaistha as per the Hindu calendar.
गंगा दशहरा को गंगावतारण् भी कहा जाता है जिसका अर्थ है “गंगा का अवतार”। इस दिन लोग गंगा स्नान करते हैं। माना जाता है कि जो इस दिन गंगा स्नान करेगा उसके पाप धुल जाते हैं। जो भी व्यक्ति इस दिन पूरी श्रद्धा और विधि-विधान केसाथ पूजा करता है उसे मां गंगा और भगवान शिव का आशीर्वाद प्राप्त होता है।
